    Question How do I represent any character in a piece of code?

    I basically want to say if character at slot 2 has something there or if character at slot 3 has somethin g there then the statement is valid.

    if(partOnePC.charAt(2) != NULL || partOnePC.charAt(3) != NULL)
    {

    }

    Thanks in advance, Tom

    if (partOnePC != null && (partOnePC.charAt(2) > 0 || partOnePC.charAt(3) > 0))
    pos.2 or 3 will include a range between 1 ... 255 (0x01 .. 0xFF)

    You're welcome. The code is the 100% "bug-free" if you check the length of the string before you poke each position. Here is it,
    if (partOnePC != null && partOnePc.length() > 3 && (partOnePC.charAt(2) > 0 || partOnePC.charAt(3) > 0))
