You might want to throw out an example game that it's similar to, so that people get an idea of the scale you're talking about. Is this tetris or WoW?

Also, I might suggest taking this one piece at a time- get the game working first. Then get a queuing system working. Then get a chat room working. It's going to be almost impossible to get everything you've mentioned done in an organized way on what I assume is a meager budget.

Making a game can be a complicated venture. Even assuming you concentrate on a small piece of core functionality (instead of saying you need a chat room, a game, an online system, leaderboards, etc), you might need more than just a programmer- is the art for your game done? The sounds? Music? Text? Fonts?

All in all, unless you have an actual budget to work with, learning how to program yourself is probably more cost-effective than hiring somebody to do the programming for you.

Alright, I really appreciate the helpful advice. I know a game that is very similar to the one I would like to see created. This is why I said I would go more into detail when someone sent me a message.

Other than the game idea itself though, that's all I've got. We can always just use some place holders for those other things.

The game is a pretty simple top down shooter too. So hopefully it's not too difficult to make.

Well, there's a big difference between making a game and making a game that's good/fun/addicting/whatever. The actual code is probably not that hard, but polishing it to a point where you have a game that other people want to play is where things get difficult.

You might also want to check out GameMaker, which is an IDE-esque program that allows you to create games with very little programming. People pull off some pretty impressive things with it, and one of its basic tutorials is a top-down scrolling shooter: YoYo Games | Tutorials If nothing else, you might be able to throw together a demo to better show a programmer what you want.

Well, I've actually been working with GameMaker and I figured I could make the game that I wanted but I have yet to figure out the networking part of it. That's the big thing, I'm trying to make a game that is Online Multiplayer Top Down Shooter.
