Default how to test a stemmer in netbeans?

I'm a very beginner. I'd like to test a stemmer (Porter) on some strings to see how it works. Don't know how to approach this. I use Netbeans. I copy-pasted the open-source stemmer into a new created (main) class in a new project. But how can I test this on some text? Where should I start? I'd appreciate any answer! Thx for replying!
