Default What can be accomplished in a year?

    Hello everyone,

I'm OA-OD-JD1, which stands for Operation-A Operations Designer Java Developer 1. I'd rather you didn't ask . Anyway, I've registered here today because I'm about to embark on a year full of Java development! I'm going to practice my skills, or lack there of, everyday (where possible) for a whole year. I'm going to be looking to study software development in university in the next couple of years, so I thought I might as well get a head start. Why Java? Well, I've heard many good things about the language. I do have some experience in other languages, but I want to go down the Java path. I'd like to pursue a professional software development career, specialising in Java development. That's where all the money is, so I'm told . And I'm definitely not just in it for the money! I'm determined to become an experienced developer because it's something I'm passionate about.

Having started virtually today, it sure is going to be interesting to see how far I can get in a year. I've removed all distractions from my life so that I can focus on the important things (such as practicing my skills as a Java developer). I came here to enhance my learning rate over the next year and I hope that one day I'll be able to give back to the community.

That's about all. I look forward to getting to know some of you!

    Thanks,
    OA-OD-JD1

Sounds like you have pretty clear goals and a purpose. Welcome to the java forums and hope you learn as much as you can.

Thank you very much. I hope I can apply myself and get the most out of this year.

Welcome to the forums. Awesome to hear you have a plan, but don't forsake the rest of your life! Programming for hours a day can be fun, but it can also lead to burn out and frustration. So make sure to mix it up! Otherwise your friends might get worried when they don't hear from you for weeks at a time.

Believe me, that could not happen! I'm an athlete training seven days a week and I attend school. I'm going to dedicate around half an hour to programming each day.

Just half - an hour? What kind of programming will that give you? Unless you write codes without errors that need fixing and takes hours to spot! Anyway, follow your passion! Welcome

I've got a tight schedule, but half an hour every day should help me learn the basics fairly quickly. On the weekends, of course, I'll be spending much longer. Thanks for your welcoming!
