    Default Java Debugger Program

This is a project idea which I want to implement for my 3rd year IPP. I haven’t yet finished my second year, but I want to start the project in the summer before entering into my final year.

The aim of this program is to allow beginners to identify errors in a sample source file. The program shall work by inputting the Java code in a text area in order to verify the code. Once the user presses the “Verify JAVA” button, the program is required to highlight the SYNTAX errors present in the original source code and allow the user to modify and resubmit the code to check if errors still exist. Once the errors are solved, the program should output the expected results.

Is this a good idea for a 3rd year project? What resources do I need to create such a program? I have knowledge of JAVA, SQL, and HTML. Would it be difficult to create such a program?

    --- Update ---

The end result would be something similar to the websites below.
Online Java Compiler - Online Java Editor - Java Code Online - Online Java Runner

Welcome to the forum! Please read this topic to learn how to post code in code or highlight tags and other useful info for new members.

What you describe is an online Java syntax or style checker (like Checkstyle). Since it's an open source project (I think), source code for Checkstyle is probably available.

You ask if such a project would be difficult. Determining the difficulty requires a better understanding of your abilities. I would classify the project moderately to impossibly difficult for someone with limited Java programming experience.
