Question Which Book to buy for beginner ?

    Hello

I am not sure if this is the right part of the forum to post this in.

I started learning java online the other day and I am now looking for a book to buy so I can get the basics down. There are 2 books that have good reviews:

Head First Java, 2nd Edition (this was written for Java 5.0 but apparently many people are still using it)

Java, A Beginner's Guide, 5th Edition by: Herbert Schildt (A more traditional text book but seems up to date)

If you could recommend any others that would be great

    Gentlé

I've heard, "Head First Java, 2nd Edition" is a good one, it was recommended by my instructor as well as "Java How To Program" either one of those or both combined should be a good start in addition to your on line courses.

This question is asked many times, has been covered thoroughly all over the web, and ultimately, the answer comes down to personal preference, bookstore/online availability, and economics.

Please do more online research. If you find a book that sounds interesting, you might post a topic in the Cafe asking for opinions from others who've used that book before buying it yourself, but that approach has its own risks.
