    Default [PROJECT] Java MMORPG Development

    Hi all,

I've made a thread on these forums before, looking for programmers for this project, but that's so old and outdated now that I decided to just create a new thread.

    Project name:
    Days of Destiny

    Brief description:
Days of Destiny will be a 2D game set in a post-apocalyptic world, developed in the Java programming language. The outside world (travelling, chatting, etc.) will be orthogonal, with the camera, etc. being a little like Pokemon, while combat will be a side-on view, and will be fast-paced, having lots of quick action, like Super Smash Bros.

    Target aim:
    Free to play

    Compensation:
If the game becomes successful, developers will receive a share of the revenue. Don't count on it though; chances are the game will stay free, and please join the project for the coding/teamwork experience rather than for money.

    Technology:
Java (at least 1.5) will be required for all clients wanting to play
LWJGL, an OpenGL binding for Java, will be used to render the graphics
TWL (Themeable Widget library), will be used for the GUI
KryoNet, a Java library for networking
MySQL for database storage on the server-side

    Talent needed:
Java programmers - We require 3 more Java programmers to help with the development of both the client and the server. NOTE: AT LEAST 1 YEAR OF JAVA PROGRAMMING IS REQUIRED!
GUI artist - We're in dire need of an experienced GUI artist to take care of things such as the player-to-player chat window, NPC chat window, menus, etc
Graphics/Pixel artists - We already have a few graphics artists, however, if you really want to join, feel free to apply anyway

    Team structure:
    [u]Java programmers[/b]
    - Quasar (myself): Project leader
    - Json: Client/Server and networking developer
    - MatthiasM2: Creator of the TWL library (mentioned above), GUI developer

    Website:
If you're interested in joining the project, please apply on our forums!
    <a href="http://jmmo.codeandcoke.com/forum.php">Official Days of Destiny Forum</a>

    Contacts:
    See above
If for some reason you cannot apply on the forum, please send an email to quasar (dot) exe (at) hotmail (dot) com

    Previous Work by Team:
MatthiasM2 is the creator of the TWL GUI library (<a href="http://twl.l33tlabs.org">http://twl.l33tlabs.org</a>)
I founded/managed a private server for a popular MMORPG, developed in Java, as well as multiple other smaller games

    Additional Info:
    Screenshots!

Ooooh, how interesting, I don't have any knowledge of Slick but I've done my fair share of OpenGL using Java and C++. This could be fun, I'm not entirely sure I can commit 30 minutes a day, but who knows. If you need any help, if just a little, I can give you a hand. No matter if you want the help or not I wish you good luck and I might seek you out later on when I have more time

No more response yet? That's a shame, I'd love to see something like this take off.

I could possibly, some weeks I might have more then others though. I can start out with smaller tasks and see where it goes from there.

It certainly sounds cool and I wish you the best of luck. I would love to get involved with something like this but unfortunately I'm working on two rather large personal projects(not java based unfortunately ) along with my full time job and come September I'll be doing my final year of college so I plan to actually put some effort in this time .

Send me a link to the forums. I might see if I can turn this into a spare time hobby and perhaps give it a bit of a boost.

Hello I'm writing this from my tablet but I would like to help out with this project so I can gain experience for my upcoming career as a programmer and we can talk later when I get on my Windows PC and I can start helping you code if you let me join your team.
