Default Let's Bounce! (game I made for LD warmup weekend)

    Happy Monday all!

This past weekend I made a game for Ludum Dare's warmup weekend. You control a bouncing ball, and the idea is to bounce your ball higher than the other balls (they WILL try to interfere with you) to reach the goal height to win. Check it out if you feel like it: Let's Bounce!

Ludum Dare is a programming contest where you have 48 hours to create a game around a theme that's announced at the beginning of the contest. This was just a warmup weekend, where people submit little games as practice for the main event. Ludum Dare itself is this coming weekend, and it's a lot of fun, so anybody who's into game programming should check it out!

I still prefer the Battlefield series better.
Always love the surprise of opening up the source of a fruitful processing sketch and seeing so little code in relation to the results :p

Good luck with the real deal and good job on the subtle plug

Ah come on, triple-A games are so overrated! Support indie game development! Think if I say that in a bar people will buy me a beer? Probably not.

Yeah, Processing lets you do some really cool stuff without worrying about the boring basics of creating a gui, game loop, animations, etc. The whole game is under 1000 lines of code.

Heh, thanks. I'm not sure if you mean my plugging Ludum Dare or Static Void Games, but either way, thanks!

Haha I enjoyed that Like all of your games. Good work Kevin.

I really like the idea of Ludum Dare and would love to get involved in the future.
A game programming section within these forums is on the horizon. I know it's something you've wanted for a while.

Thanks! I highly recommend everyone at least make an attempt at Ludum Dare. I think you'll be surprised at what you can do if you just try. I'm not sure we have the demand for a game programming forum, but events like Ludum Dare do push that demand up, at least for a bit. Should be interesting to see if questions about games increases at all after next weekend.

Well maybe we can have a basic game programming forum just for somewhere to put all the game related threads.
Then a Ludum Dare forum below it for entries by forum members etc. What do you think?

Well, I think a game forum might be warranted, if you think we have enough of a demand. I guess one way to check that would be to look at the other forums and see how many of the posts are about game programming. Plus I guess you have to think about whether you want to attract the attention of people looking for help programming games from google and whatnot.

But I'm not sure a specific Ludum Dare forum (or a more general forum devoted to all game programming competitions) would get that much use- the competitions usually happen on a weekend over 48 hours, so I don't think a lot of people participating in them use forums for help, since time is a pretty important factor (and getting outside help might be against the competition rules).

And entries can go in the cafe without getting in the way too much. If time goes on and we need a forum devoted to games created by members, we could do something like JGO- have a "showcase" forum where anybody can post their games, and then a "featured" board where only the best of the best go. But that probably wouldn't happen for a long time, if at all.

    Just my $0.02 though!
