    Cool hey.. how you doin..

    Hi everyone

So, my name is Bryan. Im 20 years young and live in the Netherlands, The Hague.

I recently started devoting myself to Java because of my work and my passion to develop(with a strong language). I work as a Web Developer at Green Valley BV. We make CMS systems for the Dutch goverment mostly. This is mainly done with Java, XML, servlets and JSP.

I already have experience with OOP. I originaly started learning OOP in PHP5 but it was to loose imho. Next I started learning ASP.NET C# for my internship. I Also made a small app in just C# and I loved it(the making part).

So I have a good general idea about OOP but I saw that JAVA is alot more then just that so im really motivated to learn Java, but now its just learning syntax and next up are the advanced parts.

I already have extended experience with the next programming, scripting and markup languages:
    (X-D)HTML, CSS, JavaScript, MySQL, MSSQL, PHP(5), XML, ASP.NET C# and C#

And I hope to extend it with: Java, JSP and sqlite(using for this project)

So, thats about it for now. If anyone has questions, dont hesitate to ask

    Greetz,
    -Bryan

    Welcome to the forums

Nice to see someone with experience in other areas too. I'm sure we can help you grow you knowledge of Java rapidly. It's a very nice language to learn and lends itself to quick development in my opinion, and fun too. Grab yourself a good IDE like Eclipse and get stuck in.

Just so you know, I'm a university student in England. Studying Computer Science, I'm currently in my first year of study and we are being taught Java although its at a slow rate.
I'm a self taught programmer who has a background with C, C++, Python and Java. So far my Java is much more advanced than what they are teaching hehe

So I hope I can help.

    Chris

    Hey Chris,
    Thanks for the welcome.

I love Java because its strongly typed, wich to me means(compared to PHP) alot less code because of the validating , the library's and the OOP advantages ofcourse

In the Netherlands i've studied "ICT-beheer, Applicatie en ontwikkeling" which translated is "CS, Application and development" on MBO level, wich comes after high school I believe. I dont know how it is in England

The first year was just following classes, but from the second year until end(4e year) it was very different. We get a assigment(a project) and we just need to make it. Everything in between was decided by us. So you can see I had alot of room to do what I wanted wich means alot of self-studie for me

And I use NetBeans for my Java projects, so you know I also planned to learn Python because of the praises I heared about the Django framework, but after Java
