Default Getting into Java programming - Almost a newbie

As the title says, I'm almost new to Java and by that I mean I have attempted it before without luck and having forgotten most of the principles since then, I'm trying again now.

I originally was using the tutorials provided by Kilobolt as they were quite engaging since they were about making games (which is my eventual goal) but something came up and interfered with the time I had available to learn. The Kilobolt tutorials were good but not entirely about Java itself so I have decided to start from basics again.

I seem to have a lot of trouble just starting the learning process this time, trying to find a tutorial I can do (or at least stick to). The tips I've found online (cant post links, shame really they are interesting reads) have pointed out some failings in myself, one of which is that I'm trying to learn all by myself via books, text tutorials and videos, by joining this community I'm hoping to engage with others in a way that gets my mind working and actually understanding the fundamentals of java, examining others code and building my own with any luck.

Thanks Greg, I have a few ideas to improve my commitment/work habits, most of all breaking the link I have with my PC as a place for gaming and fun rather than work. Making a new blank work profile has helped somewhat at least.
