    Default Outlived my Profession

Looking forward to e-meeting this forum's members.

Right now, I'm involuntarily retired from over 35 years of Mainframe Application Software Development and Support and trying to re-tool. (If you have any COBOL, CICS, IDMS, BAL, JCL questions I'm your guy <grin>).

I've tried to re-tool and have become reasonably, if not commercially, adept at PHP5, CSS, XHTML and a bit of javascript.

Trying to self-teach both java and patterns -- a deadly combination -- which is the purpose of my registering.

Again, thanks for the invite, and I look forward to learning from you.

    Regards,

    grNadpa (intentionally misspelled)

    Impressive resume:
Where are you at in your Java studies now?
What do you want to get from Java?
Do you understand the basics of Object Oriented programming?

    Greenhorn question:
    What is "patterns"?
Why is it a deadly combination with Java?

    Welcome and thanks,
    Jonathan
