Hello Doyle Raymond, welcome to the Java Programming Forums

If you want to work as a Java programmer then obviously Java needs to be a main skill.
It never hurts to have additional skills in your programming armory although PHP won't help with Java really.
I personally started with HTML/PHP and use it daily when maintaining my websites. It all depends what path you are aiming to take..
