The latest programming environment:
Eclipse was the Java development tool to use in the past. I have not checked it in years though. Is there anything better than Eclipse for programming?
I learned other languages in the past, but still have a place in my heart for Java because of the portability. I come from the time of "Thinking in Java" by Bruce Eckel.

You learned the programming language just on an IDE? I'm doing the same on Java and for python. For Python using an online compiler. For Java using a forum, this forum and other websites. Java for Geeks. They know a lot. I'm sticking with them in learning Java. Works for them, should work for me.
