    Well, I am but indirectly.

Im working for a Dutch company who makes CMS for the Dutch Goverment with JSP, XML and Java. They made a own tag-lib so the templates are made in HTML, OTF[1] and rarely JSP(custom work).

We're also expanding to the USA DotGov

Back to the Java, we have a own department for making/improving the back-end wich is made with Java (Servlets). And I often look through the code and sometimes learn something

    -edit-
[1] Open Template Framework, this is how they called there tag lib

When you do start looking for a career as a Java programmer, check out our sister site Java Programming Careers

I work for a software house doing all sorts of things. Programming Java applications is one of them

Wow really?? That would be so cool!

I'm from the north of Scotland. I've searched online for job listings for java programmers and there is virtually nothing, plus I live in a remote area so things are very few and far between!

    Hello Stacey,

I work as a Java Developer in Manchester. I've been programming Java for about 3 years now and I did the SCJP exam last year and I'm hopefully taking the SCWCD exam this year.

Is there anything special you'd like to know?

Cool, yeah I am still unclear as to what the programmer role involves. Like what do you do in a job? And also, can you work from home but under a company?

If you want to work from home, you could look into registering at Rent A Coder: How Software Gets Done -- Home of the worlds' largest number of completed software projects or similar.

People post jobs that they need completing and you can bid on the project. It could be a good way to improve your skills and earn some cash along the way.

At my job I'm currently apart of a 16 man or so strong team and we develop websites. We do not work from home because my development environment requires access to certain servers which I can only reach from the office.

My job involves anything from creating a tiny webapp to being apart of a full blown project using agile methods.

If you have any more specific questions I'd be happy to answer them.
