    Default applet vs. gui app

    i am very wet behing the ears with Java... i am a bit confused with applets vs. Java GUI....
    are applets specific to a web page? and is there a way to have a nice gui app without using the browser?.. thanks and sorry for the silly question but there are so many tools out there...

    Hello rptech,

    Yes applets are displayed within webpages. If you want a GUI without using a web browser, you can use Java Swing.

    Take a look at these 2 links:

    If you are looking to build Swing applications. I would suggest looking into the Netbeans IDE.
