    Hello everyone,
Does anybody have any advice for to get better at java? I just finished my first semester of it but I do not feel very confident in my abilities. I have looked all over the web and cannot find anything that can help me. I'm a beginner that is struggling how to utilize the functions of java programming. If there is anybody that can help me I would really appreciate it.

The best way is to practice. :-)

Come up with some coding problems and then write the code for it. Or search for java coding problems on the internet.
If you get stuck just ask. There's always some one willing to help.

    Hi moester96:

Hello, and a pleasant day to you.

Just like what User2009 said, just keep on practicing on coding and eventually, you will get better. I would recommend (I hope it's not bad to endorse an e-book here in this forum) an e-book entitled Java How To Program by Dietel and Dietel 6th Edition. I downloaded this e-book a long long time ago, and at the end of each chapter, you will find useful programming problems that, if you read the chapter, will help you how to solve the programming problems. And this e-book really help me to keep on learning and practicing coding in Java.

Thank you and have a blessed day ahead.

    Respectfully Yours,

    MarkSquall

Get yourself familiar with the Java terminology and build from there. Start by googling key words you know of and add 'Java' to the search. Just like any language, you need to expand your vocabulary to excel. Always be open to criticism and accept help from others when offered. There is also the Java API, which is like the entire encyclopedia of all known Java objects, methods, and classes.

Also get used to a particular framework. If you have eyes on GUI after basic console terminology then look at JavaFX or maybe even Swing.
