Conversion of a primitive type to the corresponding reference type is called boxing, such as an int to a java.lang.Integer. Conversion of the reference type to the corresponding primitive type is called unboxing, such as Byte to byte.

See Autoboxing and Unboxing (The Java™ Tutorials > Learning the Java Language > Numbers and Strings). In the future questions like this are better answered by looking through a book or by a simple Internet search.
