    Talking Non computer related hobbies

    Hey guys,

As fellow computer geeks, I'm sure just like me, many of your hobbies are computer based.
I enjoy programming and I am also into gaming and music production.

I'm interested to know what non computer based hobbies, if any, our members have!

I personally love fishing. Mainly fresh water sport fishing.. Carp, Catfish, Pike. All catch and release.
Can't beat sitting by a lake on a beautiful summers day.

Do any of you like to fish?

Thought this would be a good opportunity to get to know our members a bit better..

I've always enjoyed traveling and seeing other places in the world.
I've made trips lasting from 3 months to 8+ years. If anyone one is interested I've posted pictures on this site: https://picasaweb.google.com/104740115624970651902/

    Hey Norm

An 8+ year trip really is some holiday!!

I loved looking through your photos. Some really nice ones there.
I especially like the Western Caribbean Cruise. You obviously sail?

I would love to own a boat one day.

    If anyone one is interested
Those are some nice adventures - where was your 'Kedai Makan', Norm? We're currently attempting to come back to the UK from a 6-year holiday in Malaysia.

Before I sold everything except my suitcase, my hobbies were skiing, cycling and caving - particularly cave-digging. It was the perfect complement to a day spend thinking and typing: sitting in a cramped, cold, dark, muddy chamber hammering the chips out of some unsuspecting boulders in the hopes there were caverns measureless to man beyond. There never were, but I still look forward to resuming that pastime.

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean by Kedai Makan. Google translates it as "diner"

Sorry, it's "food shop" or "eating shop" in Bahasa Malaysia (I think, I'm no expert!) - I saw a familiar-looking photo here:

That was on the west coast of Malaysia. I think the name was Lumut, just south of George Town.

I know Lumut, my daughter was born about 5 miles from there. I cycled there a few times with my brother-in-law for an iced dessert that had beans and sweetcorn in. I think it must have been much more pleasant to sail to Lumut than to cycle!

It was a nice stop. We left the boat at the Yacht club and took the train to Bangkok and spent a couple fo weeks in Thailand.
We ate in the Kedai Makan many times.

Don't mind a nice round of golf on a nice day. Mind you, living on the coast makes it even more difficult than it already is, compensating for the darned wind!

You mean like Dolph Lundgren's character in Universal Soldier, or in an artistic sense? I met a guy once who had a third ear surgically added to his arm. I suppose he was artistically collecting human ears...

Norm, I'm jealous of your adventuring!

As for me, I've been pretty into taking pictures (I hesitate to call it "photography"), you can check some out if you feel like it at photos.KevinWorkman.com. This reminds me that I need to update that site!

I've also been getting into riding a bike (bicycle). There are a ton of bike trails around the Washington DC area, and I love exploring those on the weekends.

Other than that, I'm pretty busy starting school, and I'm moving to a new apartment this week, so that takes up a lot of my free time for now.

And of course there's the normal go-to-the-bar-with-friends type stuff!

I like to sketch, yoyo, grow stuff(pray I get to see fruit this year :/), and make things. I think I like everything I do cause I like to make things, and that's what you're doing when you program, sketch or garden.

Yeah, school definitely gets in the way of hobbies. But then when you graduate you realize you have all this free time on your hands. Some people fill it with TV and video games, and wonder why they don't feel like they have a fulfilling life. Other people fill it with doing things they love.

I enjoy learning and studying the weather, as it is always changing and always withholds something from you...

I also love to read fantasy books and play fantasy video games. For example, right now I'm re-reading the Inheritance series because the last book just came out (yay!) and I love to play games like Minecraft and The Legend of Zelda.

Finally, I enjoy soccer, though it can be stressful.
