Re: Trying to calculate hours by the hour

Look at the Math class. It has some useful methods.
Also rounding can be done by adding 0.5 and casting to an int.

    Re: Error in code

At line 15 the code calls the parseInt() method with a String that does not contain numeric digits: "############"

Make sure the data in the file being read has the expected contents.

What problems are you having getting the program to work? Do you have any specific questions?

NOTE: Put the output in code tags to preserve its formatting.

What is not working? How are you trying to debug the code to see what the problem is?

I use println statements that print out the values of variables as they are used and changed. Also

Re: Need help creating an array method.

What is an "array method"? Is it:
A method that takes an array as a parameter

Re: Romain to arabic numbers converter

If you don't know the rules for constructing Roman numerals it will be very hard to write code to convert them. Do some research.

Before adding any new code to what is posted, you should compile it and fix the errors.

    Re: Absolute values

That message says what the problem is. Change the void to a valid datatype that the method is returning.

    See the tutorial: http://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/java/javaOO/returnvalue.html

Re: Need help with homework (beginner)

A switch statement is used for single values like 1,2 3, etc. If you want to test for a range of values (1 to 5, 6 to 10, etc), an if/else if chain would be better.
  15. [SOLVED] Re: NullPointerException, but can't figure out why

Does p have the null value when that statement is executed?
    Why doesn't it have a non-null value?

Does the points array have null values? Use the Arrays class's method:

I'm not sure what your example shows.

You can change the contents of the object without changing the contents of the variable

    refToCls.changeObject();...
  17. [SOLVED] Re: NullPointerException, but can't figure out why

Can you copy the full text of the error message and paste it here. No image. They are too small to read and text can't be copied from them to include in a response.

What happens when you use that code instead what I posted in post#4?

  25. Re: I'm having trouble adding polynomials using a singly linked list

The code has lost its formatting in places. There are many statements starting in the first column that should be indented.

Work on that part first. Later add code to put the data into the list....
