    Re: Webservices: Ruby vs PHP

    Since we're on a Java forum, I'll ask the obligatory: why aren't you using Java for this?

    Re: dispose(); An internal Frame

    What did you call dispose() on? Can you post an MCVE? (Note: that should NOT be your whole program!)

    What happened when you tried? Where is your MCVE?
  4. [SOLVED] Re: .exists() always reads true even if the file doesn't exist.

    The API is your best friend: https://docs.oracle.com/javase/8/docs/api/

    Check out the PrintWriter class:...
  5. [SOLVED] Re: .exists() always reads true even if the file doesn't exist.

    No. You should provide an MCVE, which is pretty much the opposite of your whole program- you need to boil it down to as few lines as possible, while still being enough for us to run on our own...

  7. [SOLVED] Re: .exists() always reads true even if the file doesn't exist.

    The most likely explanation is that the file is there. Maybe it's hidden?

    Try running this example program and see if this prints out true:

    import java.io.File;

    public class Test{
    public...

    Re: print numbers

    What have you tried?

    How did you print the String "Enter a number: "?

    Have you looked at the API for System.out.println()?

    The API is your best friend:...

    Re: Can't get the answer!!!

    What happened when you stepped through this with a debugger?

    What happened when you added print statements?

    What happened when you stepped through this with a piece of paper and a pencil?
  12. Re: Will the rise of phones mean the end of Java?

    When I said that applets were dead, I didn't mean that it was completely impossible to use them.

    I meant that it's become so difficult for end-users to use applets (compared to things like html5...

    Citation needed. Java works extremely well on Android- like Aussie said, most Android applications are written in Java. Check out the Android tutorials:...

  15. Re: Why can't I get out of this do while loop?

    Look at this boolean expression:

    !input.equals("q") || !input.equals("Q")

    When will that ever evaluate to false?

    [SOLVED] Re: FPS question

    Not only does it rely on the underlying OS, it also doesn't leave any room for actually doing anything.

    In other words, even if your OS's clock is completely accurate (not likely), and even if the...

    [SOLVED] Re: FPS question

    What happened when you measured the frames per second using that approach?

    But the short answer is that no, that's not a good way to get 60FPS, since it's going to depend on your OS's clock, which...
  18. Re: How to make JFrame, JPanel have triple buffering?

    I highly doubt that the solution to your flickering issue is to use triple buffering. Chances are you're doing something wrong- would you mind posting an MCVE?

    Re: How to plot graph in java

    What exactly do you mean when you say you want to plot a graph? Are you talking about a command-line program or a GUI program? What exactly are you confused about? What's your question?

    Re: How should i make my graphics?

    If you want to dive into 3D, you have a few options in Java:

    JOGL is a pretty low-level OpenGL wrapper for Java.

    LWJGL is a bit more high-level than JOGL, as it adds a few pieces specific to...

    Re: How should i make my graphics?

    Here's my two cents:

    You should start out in Processing: http://processing.org/

    Processing is built on top of Java, so you learn all the right syntax, but it has a bunch of utilities that make...

    Re: Recursion in Java

    Can you post your updated code?

    You need to take a step back and think about what your base case is. When do you want to recurse? When should you *not* recurse?

    Re: Recursion in Java

    I'm not really suggesting anything. I'm just pointing out that your original code doesn't have a base case, so that recursion will definitely hit a StackOverflowException. Does your new code work?
