    Re: java with cmd

There are no methods in the standard Java libraries to do that.

The language developers seem to have made a decision to favour graphical user interfaces *instead of* the command line. 3rd party...
  2. Re: Trying to unzip a file but only get java.io.filenotfoundexception

    You're welcome.
  3. Re: Trying to unzip a file but only get java.io.filenotfoundexception

A ZipEntry instance has a sDirectory() method and you can use that to see if you want to append a '/'.

In fact I wonder whether it wouldn't be "cleaner" to use the method made to determine whether...

Re: Reading a files header, hex

Hi NSK, welcome to the forums!

I don't know if tomb1992 is around at the moment, and this thread is rather old. It might be a better idea if you start your own thread to ask. Most people will...
  5. Re: How do I adjust the brightness of an image?

Without seeing the error messages it is very hard to say what is going wrong.

If they refer to the same line of code then that (or a little before) is the place to start looking for the syntax...
  6. Re: How do I adjust the brightness of an image?

    Compile it and see.

If there are compiler messages post the complete messages as they're useful in describing what the compiler is grumbling about.
  7. Re: How do I adjust the brightness of an image?

It's odd that you declare a variable j and have an inner for loop the body of which does the same thing over and over again. What is the body of that for loop supposed to do?
  8. Re: How do I adjust the brightness of an image?

There's also brighter() in the Color class which appears (from the documentation) to be implemented the way ChristopherLowe suggests. For dealing with a whole image it might be more efficient to...

    Re: Exception practice completely lost

I imagine you have to import this TextIO class.

What you have seems OK - and once you import TextIO it should compile and run without errors. (If there are errors, post them). Of course you...

    Re: Exception practice completely lost

Copying the contents is rather easy: you use the copyStream() method provided. But I don't think you are at that stage yet. First you have to use the string site to get the data from the url that...
  11. Re: I don't understand what exactly this assignment is asking me to do.

Java arrays always have a length which gets set when the array is created and never changes thereafter. Moreover, every slot of an array always contains something.

    Other languages are different...

Re: Really simple beginner program trouble

    What error message?

Post the message and the code it refers to (the full method, or class) otherwise people can only guess and that's of limited use.

[Edit] Ah! I've seen the "unexpected...

Re: String index out of range error

I don't think nextInt() is *bad*, but, as with all methods you have to read the documentation. It means what it says: "Scans the next token of the input as an int. This method will throw...

    Re: Array Index input?

@bmc: I "thanked" your post basically to endorse your acknowledgement of Norm's comments and the spoonfeeding article. I especially liked the fact that you had left the OP with a problem (how to...

    Re: object class

Notice that the values of t2 and t3 are most definately not equal. Every time you say "new" you get a new thing. New, and distinct.

The fact that you override hashCode() doesn't alter this.

    Re: Dice Sum

It strikes me that repeat should mean ... repeat. So the loop would make more sense as while(repeat) without the !. Of course that means modifying the line before.

Now, how should the value of...

    Re: Dice Sum

What (in English) is repeat supposed to mean?

You have an empty for loop, and that can't be right. Also note that I<d-(d-1) means the thing as I<1.
  21. Re: Interface Class and Object Class is compiling symbol errors

The class is called CalculateDoubles (with a capital C), so I think you mean

    calculateDoubles = new CalculateDoubles();

The CalculateDoubles class doesn't have a setFirstValue() method.

  22. Re: Interface Class and Object Class is compiling symbol errors

What is the full compiler message?

It will say what line the compile problem occurred. "cannot find symbol" is often a case of finding a typo.

    Re: object class

The full error message should tell you where this happens. It's not the System.out.println() that's the problem: rather, it's when equals() tries to do what you tell it. You will get a...
  24. [SOLVED] Re: All of my ArrayList Objects have been given the index of -1 help!!!

I agree with Norm - seeing the full output when you run the program will help discussing it.

You should also post the Video code. I don't have a compiler handy, but I'm pretty sure it is possible...
