Default New to Java and programming in general

Hi everyone! I liked the look of this forum and the way it is set up so here I am. I am a beginner in writing programs but pretty skilled in other aspects of computers(building, repairing, networking, security) and I would like to add programing to my skill set. I have tried out a couple of different programming languages a couple years ago but couldnt get the hang of it but this time i want to really learn it Before i didn't have enough ideas of what to make and such and now i know a lot of stuff i would love to make. So i just wanted to say hi and ask for any direction and the best way to start out

I have tried out VB, C/C++, Perl, and Python and i could make some stuff but the ideas never flowed so i stopped. i can make the hello world program in just about all of them still hahaha and some small stuff with timers and such with VB but not sure how to do the interfaces in c/C++ and java and such so thats another reason i stopped trying but i never really looked at java before and so far i like what i see

so if anyone could point me into some kind of direction where to start (i downloaded eclipse and messing around with it for a bit seems very nice to work with) would be very much appriciated. thanks everyone

    Hello derekxec.

Welcome to the Java Programming Forums. I'm glad you like the site.

I was like you. I was into building/repairing PCs and Network Security before I got into the programming side. My first language was Visual Basic. My world used to revolve around writing security tools
