Enjoying my first few days on the forum, though agog at the lengths to which some members go to avoid spoon-feeding. My kids should have parents like you! I tend to fail fast to "oh shut up and eat it", mea culpa.
If anybody has a clue how to find a dream Java development job in the South West of England, or anywhere at least as warm in continental Europe, I am all eyes.

Welcome to the forums.
We have had to enforce rules more than ever due to the large amount of Java newbies on the site wanting a free ride through college
People were providing full answers to homework questions which defeats the learning aspect of these forums. We are always happy to help with college work, just as long as the student shows they have made an effort and takes on board the comments made.
As for work in the South West of England, PM me your CV and I will pass it over to some recruiters.
We run a Java Careers website, which is currently down for a quick update but once it's up again, It would be worth registering.
