Default Which is better JSP or PHP for webprogramming

Well this is my problem. I know core java and my teachers suggested me to learn JSP and servlets which is for sure for web programming. But now, PHP is more used for webprogramming than java. So is it still worth to do a deep learning in JSP or should I learn PHP ? And what are the fields where java can be used? (ex: desktop applications, network programming, etc)
    Thanks

Each have their unique advantages it all depends on for what kind of applications you want to use these pages decides the technology to be used. As you are already aware of java it would be easier for you to grab the concepts of JSP.

What makes you think php is used more than Java for server-side programming?

There is no one answer about which one is "better". Programming languages are tools. It's up to you to decide which one is more useful for your purposes.

Actually I feel bored typing html codes and I love java. But nowadays, people are moving towards web applications and cloud computing rather than desktop applications and I think those web applications are built in php.

Well, you're probably half right. Some of them are written with php. Some of them are written with Java EE. Some of them are written with both. Some of them are written in something else. You aren't going to find an answer to a question like "which language is the best?", exactly like you won't find an answer to whether a hammer or a saw is the best tool.
