    Default Oracle™ Java™ Platform, Standard Edition D.R. 1.7.10 b 06 issue (installation files)

    Dear Sirs,
after having installed Oracle™ Java™ Platform, Standard Edition Developer Preview Release 1.7.10 Beta 06 (05.09.2012).exe I performed a deep cleaning using the latest Xleaner Enhanced release, which, because of an error of mine, accidentally deleted the Java Setup files.

O.S.: MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 fully updated.

Because of that I'm unable either to reinstall the same Preview release or to uninstall it.

Obviously I cant install the b9 release as well.

Tried with JavaRa 2.0 too but it also fails.

I need a suggestion on how to get rid of this issue without reinstalling the complete OS.

    JavaRa 2.0 Log:

    User initialised redundant data purge.

    Removed registry subkey: 1.2.0_01
    Removed registry subkey tree: JavaSoft
Removal routine completed successfully. 689 items have been deleted.

Waiting for any useful reply I remain.
    Yours.

How about a system restore? Easy solution.

I dont use the Windows system restore.

I relayed on Macrium Reflect image backup but, as any image has a 22 GB size anytime I make one I've to delete the previous one (as of today I didnt found any free cloud storage service allowing me to upload 22 GB at once and even if it could exist I'm behind an upload rate of 512 Kbps which means weeks of uploading).

Anyway, I adviced the issue subsequently at the last backup copy so I've no more options to revert my OS at an early point.

Actually the only reverting is the JavaRa one: it means that the only missing files are the setup ones; missing them I could even reinstall the same Java SE release coz the OS informs me that the operation is valid only for installed products.

An user suggested me to use the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility 2.5.0.1 software; I will use it just after using Your Uninstaller software to uninstall the corrupted Java SE; usually I choose Super Mode (see hyperlink).

Now, after every unsuccesful trial of solving this issue I restore the last backup copy on my hands, which took 1 hour and a half to complete; during the restoring I can't access my laptop at all.

So, Im gonna try right now the Windows Cleanup utility solution.

If it fails I'll be back to you on Mon, 01 October (my Standard time zone is UTC/GMT -3 hours so it's almost nite and I need to use my laptop, even if the Java uninstall fails; OS restoring will be done, just in case, during my sleep time).

Right now it's all up to you.

    Till next time.

    Yours sincerely.

    Well,
the option Your Uninstaller + Windows Clean Up Utility failed.
The Java SE Installer still detects a "fake" installation of itself and doesnt allow me to proceed with reinstallation.
Tonite I will reinstate the backup copy.
In the meantime any further suggestion is really welcome.
    Yours sincerely.

I know this does not solve your problem but this is something I run into frequently, so I would like to add a few words to the topic.

When you buy a computer they usually come with a system restore. In older times on disc, more frequently on a partition the newer the pc. You should keep a backup of the original setup before any changes are made so you can put the pc back to it's original state at any time. This should be something different than your periodic backups and not be overwritten/purged over time.

As far as your periodic backup system goes, never keep only one older version. A problem could begin at one time, and not be noticed for some period of time in the future. (Of course depending on how often you backup,) you could easily save the problematic version as your only backup. That really limits the purpose of having a backup system to begin with.

In my younger years my family lived far from town and the fastest connection available to me was 24.6kbps but the daily usual connection was 21.4kbps. My suggestion on that is if you have 0.01% chance of getting stuck behind a slow or no connection, do not rely on cloud storage as your sole solution. (I think there is a 0.01% chance for every corner of the planet at this time). I keep things on the cloud, but I also keep the same backups on dvd, flash drives, and portable hard drives.

I feel like I have been in your shoes before. I have been. So best of luck to you. One last note however, I notice you are running windows... I found many solutions are available to many problems if you run windows and linux.

Good luck with your situation there, hope it turns out to be a quick fix.

I'd like to, but with a 320GB hdd, two windows (7+8) installed on different partitions, each one with his own program files directory, a data partition for all my Outlook 2010 + 2013 imap files and my not on-cloud docs (just a few), and for my downloaded movies, plus a directory for both OS temporary files, is quite impossible to me store so many backup images.

Personally I never trusted in Windows System Restore: each time I used it I've been very disappointed.

Furthermore I still have to buy an externel HDD &/or a BD / BD-XL drive (even if they've already been planned, but my incomes don't allow me to buy everything I'd like to; I always dream about the day I could buy both accessories, but I don't know if and when it will come).

I may reinstall the Windows 7 from the scratch, tweaking it the way I need, that's not the problem or the question.

My one question is: is there a way to "reinstate" the Java SE setup files somehow or not?

For a programmer I suppose it could be quite easy solve the issue, but Im not a programmer, even if I know quite a lot about Windows (and just Windows, always due to economical reasons: my laptop doesnt allow Windows 8 to be installed in a Virtual Machine, nor I can install the VMWare virtualization software, coz my processor has not the native virtualization needed to install virtual OSs; on my mind there's also a modern 64-bit laptop, the day I'll win the Global lottery :-), in order to proceed installing the latest Windows Server release, etc. etc. ).

By now I'm just hanged (hung) with what's on my poor hands.

    All the best fellas.

I don't know the answer to that for sure. I am not really a windows guy but my guess would be that java is not built in, so surely there is some way to remove it. On my pc if I don't want something I can uninstall it and remove everything related to it. I would assume windows will allow you to do the same with a program you install. I think asking a windows guy is the better answer.

There are a few ways to uninstall a software on my Windows 7 Ultimate SP1:
    1) via the built-in Windows Add/Remove programs
    2) via the CCleaner app
    3) via the Your Uninstaller app which also could a deep registry cleaning removing all the obsolete registry keys left behind from the normal uninstallers (reads: Windows Add/Remove programs / CCleaner)

If the Your Uninstaller fails I suppose that the other two couldnt be better than this one, just because YU is by far more powerful than the others.

Java SE doent have a built-in uninstaller that could be used from the end-user, it only appears when some apps try to uninstall it, but at that time it shows me an error of a missing .dll, which is the real source of the issue (IMHO).

So, I may try other uninstallers, but the missing .dll file error will reported again by Java itself, that's the problem.

An idea of how to force the reinstalling of the missing .dll file?

BTW I've to inform you all that even if I choose to install Java SE in D:/Program files/Oracle Sun/Java path when I try to uninstall it, the missing dll file is looked on D:/Program files/Java and such directory doesn't even exist on my PC.

Something weird happened, so more than a technician I guess than a programmer (that is also a Windows guy, obviously) could understand the situation.

    Regards.
