Thread: How to get started with Java?

Alright, I've decided to work on a project, but I need some help.
The thing is, I have a HUGE problem with getting started, on just about anything and everything and I have since I can remember.

I like to think I know Java pretty well, but I've never actually created anything of my own, I've always just helped/modify existing code to make it better.

So how do I do it? Where do I start? What do I make first?

Also, if this is in the wrong section please let me know and move it.

Welcome Terry, hope you enjoy it here. It is in the wrong section, no worries though JavaPF will take care of it .

Anyway, so for a project really should right down what the main goals of the project are, then decide on interface etc and piece together algorithms on paper. So that you have a good solid ground to build off. Then Create your system Class by Class, as you outlined earlier, in each class do it function by function testing each one works correctly etc etc. Then test the class, and move on to the next class. Then test all the classes together to make sure it works and your done
