Default Java Exam - Open Book

Sorry if this post is off topic, i'm not too sure but thought i'd post it anyway! if needs be you can delete this. But, I am just looking for some advice from programmers : ) this seemed like the most active section to post it, with programmers..

I sat an exam not too long ago now that was also open book but I feel like I didn't prepare enough to take full advantage. I literally took Big Java in and notes from class, so you could say I was a little lazy. Anyway, as a result I didn't do too great exam, got a very average result...

As I have another one coming up ( far more important ) I thought it'd be good to ensure I gather all the advice I can get. I've just been reading through Java Books and trying to learn all the topics covered, but theres so many! : )

So, if any of you guys any useful advice that could better my potential of doing well I'd greatly appreciate it. As for my other, I literally didn't use my resources whatsoever and feel like this definitely hindered my grade...

    Thanks for reading!

Programming is a skill, not a fact that can be memorized or looked up and simply copied to the answer sheet. There aren't any resources that can ensure success on tests of skill. That's like a gymnast, golfer, or football player asking what book they should take to a sporting contest to ensure they or their team will win.

Since you have no code that you want help with, I'll find the most appropriate sub-forum for your topic and move it.
