Fixed it, I'd not put a space into one of the functions! newJPanel needed to be new JPanel.Quote:

It does, thank you for the pointer. I went back and looked closely at the code once more and found the error.
After staring at the same piece of code for hours on end makes you miss just little trivial things!!
