Space Monkey Returns
Sorry for getting the concept wrong for this part of the forum.
I work in a tedious job, I make the slides that allow Pathologists to make a diagnosis. The job is monkey work, you turn a wheel on an expensive bacon slicer called a "Microtome" and create 4um thick slices of human tissue encased in a wax, think of the old film reals, how each frame was ever so slightly different from the next, and the frames, (which we call sections) where all connected in a line. Well once you have cut about 4 - 12 sections (or Frames) you lay the ribbon of sections down on a water bath, that is warm. This gives you perfectly flat sections without wrinkles. You use a slide and forcepts to separate the sections and pick them up off the water bath, onto the slide. The section are then stained with either Antibodies or Special Stains or a H&E (Hematoxylin & Eosin).
The pathologist can then use those stained sections to make a diagnosis. The big thing in histology is that we are going from diagnostic to prognostic testing, so now we can not only tell you that you are going to die, but how soon!! Oh progress.
So work will pay for collage, I had done some work learning Microsoft Access, and I took a "Java" course.
The programming is OK. It is connecting the files and calling the file to do it's thing that I will be using this forum for help with. Then I will be using it to help me with the code. lol.
Having spent the time on Java I do not want to forget it. So I think the way to stay sharp is to have my own website and get that going and keep it going. Hortons book tells me that is where he will lead me, so I am happy about that.
I eventually want to help build the programs used in the equipment in histology, instead of just being the end user. Histology also uses a lot of database programs like "CoPath" that to is an option I want to get into. So I am using this forum to further my self.
Finally if you have a funny looking mole on your body. Go to a Dermatologist, I use to do a lot of work cutting up skin biopsies. Get melanoma early before it gets you!!
