I've always wanted to get into computer-related subjects, but for some reason I assumed that, since my academic life had taken a language/writing path from early on, I couldn't switch it up and try something a little more math/science.
I just finished my MFA in Creative Writing, and decided it was finally time to take some computer-y classes. I'm taking a range (one in HTML5/CSS, one in Networks, one in game design...and my very favorite, Intro to Java Programming), and I'm loving it.
I'm especially amazed by how much time flies by while I'm working on the little problems my Java instructor keeps giving us (I'm working in pico, but I'm slowly venturing into vi a bit...I find it intimidating, I admit it)...just basic stuff, we only just got to if statements, but I'm hooked.
I wanted to find an online community so I could (a) have an excuse to spend more time reading and thinking and talking about Java, and (b) soak up the wisdom from everyone who's been working with Java longer than I have. :D
