Re: Read and unread forums
Hmmm... That is strange. Thanks for reporting it Json.
It could be a setting in the forums somewhere. I'll take a look as soon as possible.
Threads that haven't been read appear in bold. Once they are read they unbold. I find that once all threads have been read, it switches to the 'Forum Contains No New Posts' icon.
Do your threads re-bold even after reading or is it the 'New posts' icon that appears?
Re: Read and unread forums
Lets say I go in to a forum with 5 unread (bold) threads. I then click the mark this forum as read and all of them go normal style.
Later on when I come back to the forum they are all bold again even though they havent changed.
My guess would be some sort of cookie issue and usually that would be on my side, maybe I should try another browser than Google Chrome.

Re: Read and unread forums
Yeah that would suggest a cookie issue. It could also be something to do with the session timeout maybe?!
I have never used Google Chrome. I use Firefox mainly & Internet Explorer. I will do some testing this end and see if it's a browser issue.
Re: Read and unread forums
Do you think you could try another browser? It would help with the testing...
Re: Read and unread forums
I'm now using firefox for these forums to see if that will help.

Re: Read and unread forums
I noticed a similar problem with topics not being marked as read... This one is browser independent (or, at least occur on both chrome and firefox), and is that threads don't get marked as read if you close the tab/browser, or navigate away in any way other than the breadcrumbs links.

Even if you refresh the page?
Re: Read and unread forums
I've just come back after a day using Firefox and I still have loads of unread stuff which I've marked as unread 15 times already :D
Will do some more testing.

:( There must be a bug in the forum software. Hopefully it\'ll be resolved when I do the next upgrade.
Re: Read and unread forums
I take it you don\'t have these issues?

I think I do have these issues actually but I've never really marked the forums as read. I will do some testing myself soon. Busy busy busy at work at the moment. Wish I had more time to crack on here!

Re: Read and unread forums
Hey guys,
Are you still experiencing this problem?
I recently upgraded the forum software so I'm hoping it's fixed the bug. :-??
Re: Read and unread forums
Something else which is somewhat strange I belive, right now this is my active users count.
Currently Active Users: 900 (31 members and 869 guests)
Is this correct? Is the sessions alright on this server we reckon?

This is correct. I deliberately set the session timeouts for users to 3 hours. I did this so it looks like there are as many members online as possible. When a new person comes to the site, I think it really helps convert them to members if they see the site is active.
As for the guest count. That is also correct.. I can see in the database that all of these connections are coming from different IPs.
We not only beat our Highest active user count this month but we also smashed our 11k unique record.

Excellent news! I knew it was growing well.
I must say, I don't know about now but on the unread topcs debate. I think the problem was that using the back button for example would in effect say you never visited the post. But to click a link back to the main page etc is fine.

Chris

Good to know, cheers! :D

Re: Read and unread forums
Tested in Google Chrome and Firefox on Windows XP, and Chromium and Firefox on Lubuntu Linux. Still having read issue.
Re: Read and unread forums
Tested in Firefox and Google Chrome in Windows XP, and Firefox and Chromium in Lubuntu Linux 10.04. All the same.
And something interesting: When I tried to click "Mark all forums read" I got this

Re: Read and unread forums
Issue remains. But I dont have a problem when I click "Mark all forums read".
Re: Read and unread forums
Having problems as well. I've a) logged out b) deleted cookies and neither worked. This has happened in the past and I usually go down to "Mark Forums Read" link, which does the trick. This time, I get the following error:
Code :

Re: Read and unread forums
As far as im aware, the forums will not mark as read until all forums with new posts have been visited atleast once. Even old threads.
Isn't this how it works on all forums?
