Dying PC, I might need someones help
My computer is working really slow, I was thinking about finding some help. I really have no idea what I am doing, has anyone on here tried geek choice? A friend said they might be good. I also found advantagecomputersol.com but their site does not look good to me.
I just need some company who can solve the problem with this thing.
Every time I start my firefox it takes nearly 3 minutes to display on screen :(
I've also noticed a small clicking sound coming from the tower itself. What does that mean?
Re: Dying PC, I might need someones help
im not professional or anything, but what i would do...
buy some ram. install it.
after you have done that start looking at lightweight linux distributions. maybe damn small, or puppy linux.
not having a resource operating system will help lots. these distros use absolute minimum resources and will run on practically anything very smoothly.
also, i think the clicking noise you hear may be a hard drive. possibly.
Re: Dying PC, I might need someones help
I have a similar problem with firefox. It takes at least a minute to load first time.. Do you have many ad-ons installed? Try what gibson said and upgrade your memory.

Whats your computer specs? Processor speed, RAM etc.

Clicking sound inside the box could indicate a damaged Hard Disk.

Re: Dying PC, I might need someones help
clicking sound inside the box could also indicate a working hard disk, and that is the most likely explanation.
I assume you are running a Windows OS (XP,Vista,7 etc..), how much RAM do you have and processor speed, also have you checked for viruses/adware etc..
couple of apps you could try to find these are AVG for viruses and SpyBot for adware (both have free editions).
Also, how long since you bought the PC?, how long since windows has been completely reinstalled on the pc? Over time windows slows down as apps are installed/removed etc.. it may be worth doing a complete reinstall, that is the best way to make your PC feel new again.
of course Linux users dont have these problems ;), so glad I moved to Ubuntu a few years ago ;)
anyway Good Luck!

Keeping a PC clean is not an easy task. Not even for the pro's!
If your computer used to run at a decent speed and this is a new problem, your best bet is to
1. backup all your personal data on a USB hard disk.
2. reformat the hard disk.
3. restore your personal data
4. install all programs that you use.
This may sound harsh, but the truth is that if you have let your computer slow down to such extent by so many Trojans and memory residents, this may be the fastest solution.
